Operations Intern - Ocean Freight Marketplace (f/m/d) [Germany]

Job Description

In the 1950s, global trade changed for good. The invention of the standardized container suddenly meant that transporting goods across the world became affordable. And with that, paved the way for globalization and global wealth. But contrary to the container, most surrounding processes have not been standardized nor innovated—and are still frustratingly complex, manual, and error-prone.

That’s why our ambition is to use technology to simplify the logistics of global trade, making the processes around the container as simple as the container itself. We do that by providing a neutral infrastructure that connects all logistics companies to remove friction and create economic opportunity.

Operations Intern - Ocean Freight Marketplace (f/m/d)

Ocean freight is the number one choice for global logistics. Our clients at xChange currently need to send a lot of e-mails, WhatsApp messages, and phone calls to get quotes and sailing schedules for their ocean freight movements. Moreover, there is a lack of transparency in the market due to several cost components at different shipping lines. Our Ocean Freight platform sheds light on this area and simplifies the processes around booking ocean freight.

As our Ocean Freight Marketplace Operations Intern, you are building the backbone of the booking platform on xChange with sailing schedules and freight rates for our suppliers (Shipping Lines). Your mission is to help encourage sellers to offer a wider set of connections leading to more supply on the platform! You do this by making it super easy for suppliers to sell via xChange as you build smart ways of collecting and transforming their data so they don't have extra work.

Requirements

Your responsibilities in a nutshell

  • Aggregate and format data coming from different sources and make it available in our xChange application
  • Ensure that our supplier data is always up to date (rates, terms & sailing schedules) and in the right format
  • Build relationships with our suppliers; troubleshoot where necessary and find ways to solve their problems
  • Decrease manual data-workload for our customers and constantly find ways to improve processes with the rest of the team
  • Come up with creative solutions to standardize data as fast as possible and build tools to automate our processes, helping us to reduce manual and error-prone steps
What we’re looking for

  • Student or graduate with a passion for large amounts of data and with superior excel skills, looking for a six-month internship in Hamburg

  • You speak English fluently and communicate in a clear and structured way
  • You are great at prioritizing your tasks and you look at processes critically – let’s identify areas of improvement and scale up together!
