The Regional Centre for Forensic Psychiatry
The Regional Centre for Forensic Psychiatry (KPS) at Oslo University Hospital (OUS) is a regional and national hub in research, knowledge dissemination and professional development related to how crime and antisocial behavior occurs, how it relates to mental disorders, and what treatment is most helpful for individuals with mental disorders who are in prison, forensic psychiatric care or in the wider community.
We are now looking for a postdoctoral fellow for a 3-year full-time position. The position is linked to the project "Understanding and preventing violent crime in high-risk individuals - a mixed-methods approach (PreVio)", funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The project is a collaboration between KPS, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, the University of Oslo, Oslo Police District and the Norwegian Correctional Service. The overall goal of the project is to contribute with empirical knowledge on the development over time of violence risk in individuals with mental disorders. Updated prevalence rates in this field are lacking in Norway and will be of great importance to the authorities, and particularly useful in order to facilitate cooperation between the health and justice sectors. The project group will also investigate whether any changes in violent crime among the mentally ill are linked to legal reforms or other societal factors and if certain subgroups have a particularly high risk. For this purpose, we will use a new nationwide register linkage (ForenPsych, N ~ 8 million) including diagnostic information from the Norwegian Patient Register and criminal records from Statistics Norway. This data material is unique in an international context.
The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the research group at KPS and work closely with researchers at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and the University of Oslo. We have a wide network of national and international collaborators within psychology, epidemiology, criminology, and forensic psychiatry, including Department of Psychiatry at University of Oxford. The postdoctor will be based at Gaustad Hospital in Oslo. The application must include CV, an updated publication list, and two references.
Oslo University Hospital is a workplace with great diversity. We believe this is essential to perform the tasks required of us. Therefore, we pursue diversity among our job applicants and encourage everyone to apply regardless of who you are and what background you have.
