If so, we have an opportunity for a Deckhand to join our team in Far North Queensland (FNQ), working in Cairns, Mourilyan and Lucinda on a casual basis.
Due to the nature of casual employment and the potential to be engaged at short notice, we will be considering applications from candidates who reside within two hours of the operation, and with a preference to those who are willing to work across all FNQ port locations (including voyages sailing from Mourilyan to Lucinda and return during sugar season).
What You Can Look Forward To
Reporting to the Operations Manager and the Tug Master onboard the vessel, this position offers you the opportunity to perform deck and general-purpose duties relating to towage on our vessels in the port.
What You Will Do
Your key responsibilities in this position will include:
- Perform deck, maintenance, and general-purpose hand duties on our vessels in Far North Queensland.
- General maintenance of vessels, equipment, firefighting and environmental protection equipment and relevant store-based facilities.
- Watchkeeping and in charge of navigational watch duties following the completion of internal In Charge of Navigational Watch (INW) training.
- Handling of stores and equipment.
- Compliance with policies and procedures authorised by Svitzer and consistent with statutory obligations including quality assurance and ISM procedures.
- Ensuring day to day compliance with relevant environmental regulations.
- Participating in operational improvement exercises as required and liaise with Svitzer management regarding the improvement of operational procedures.
What You Will Need To Succeed
To be successful in this position, you will be able to demonstrate:
- A minimum Master <24 NC Certificate of Competency or equivalent, and a willingness to undertake internal Svitzer INW training.
- Statements of attainment in Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (HLTAID001).
- A current AMSA Medical and a valid MSIC or ‘Job Ready’ MSIC Application (or proof of ability to obtain).
- Ability to build excellent working relationships with the team and external customers.
- Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written.
- Good problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- The right to live and work in Australia.
